Account Deletion
Delete your account from the app
If you have access to your Animou account, the most direct way is to use the deletion flow built into the app:
- Open the Animou app.
- Go to Profile.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Delete account.
- Read the summary and confirm, then enter the 6-digit code sent by email.
The request opens a 30-day grace period. During this period, the account is locked for deletion and you can still cancel the request by signing back in or through the cancellation flow available in the app.
Animou sends two email reminders, around day 7 and day 25, before final deletion.
Request deletion without access to the app
If you have uninstalled the app or can no longer access your account, you can request deletion by email.
You do not need to reinstall the app to start this request.
Send your request to Email protected — enable JavaScript with:
- the subject line Animou account deletion;
- the email address associated with the account;
- the phone number associated with the account, if you provided one;
- a clear sentence stating that you request deletion of your Animou account and associated data.
Animou may ask for additional verification to confirm that you are the holder of the account concerned.
After verification, Animou confirms that the request has been taken into account and starts the same 30-day grace period as the in-app flow.
You may also use the Contact page if you prefer to use the website form. Clearly state that your request concerns account deletion.
Data deleted or anonymised
After the 30-day grace period expires, Animou deletes the account and associated data that is no longer necessary for the service.
Depending on the data present on the account, this includes:
- profile information;
- addresses and points of interest;
- push notification tokens;
- registered animals;
- active listings published by the account;
- conversation data and media attached to the account, where deletion is possible without affecting the rights or safety of other users;
- technical Animou authentication identities linked to the account.
Some data may be anonymised, or kept in a limited and access-restricted form, rather than deleted when necessary for service integrity, abuse prevention, security, evidence of a report or compliance with a legal obligation. Where such data remains linked to a person, it is kept only for the duration strictly necessary for those purposes.
Data that may be temporarily retained
Animou may retain limited information where necessary to:
- prevent fraud, abuse, spam or dangerous behaviour;
- handle a dispute, report or authority request;
- comply with a legal obligation;
- maintain the technical security of the service;
- retain moderation or security logs for a proportionate period.
As an indication, security, moderation and diagnostic logs are generally retained for up to 12 months. Support exchanges may be retained for up to 365 days after the last exchange. Personal data export archives remain available for 7 days.

Export your data before deletion
Before deleting your account, you can request an export of your data from the app:
- Open Profile.
- Tap My data.
- Tap Export my data (GDPR).
When the export is ready, Animou sends you an email containing a temporary link. The archive is available for a limited period, currently 7 days.
Cancel a pending deletion
During the 30-day grace period, you can cancel deletion by signing back in to the app or by using the cancellation button shown in the app when your account is scheduled for deletion.
Once the grace period has expired and final deletion has been completed, cancellation is no longer possible.
